KAMA: Chapter 1
Every now and then someone comes along and almost instantly you know they have it. The x-factor, something about them that just separates them from the rest of the up-and-coming competition. When we stumbled upon Kama (or noticed a few hush hush co-signs on twitter) the first question on our mind was who even is he?! We have no idea. Maybe we'll find out in the future. For now just hit that follow button on soundcloud (perhaps even enable push notifications?!) and patiently wait for the follow up to this gem. His online presence is pretty stripped back at this stage, can someone tip the GCSB onto him and pick out his identity for us?
Clocking in at just 2 minutes & 8 seconds long the track is basically the definition of a teaser. Pairing a sample of Troy Samuela's Jawbreaker with hovering synths, pitch-shifting 808 bass, and auto-tune dipped vocals, the track is certainly one of the best we've heard coming out of New Zealand so far this year. Say hello to our Hottest Song.
EDIT: When we opened our browser this morning it was a nice surprise to discover a new track by Kama had been uploaded overnight. You Ain't The Plug follows up with a similar flavour to Chapter 1. The hashtag #BookOfKama is tagged on both tracks, which would suggest this is the start of the roll-out of a mixtape. Fingers crossed..
