With his first release since his impressive last album The Good Fight Oddisee is back with Alwasta, a 26-minute long EP. In a previous interview with DeadEndHipHop he stated "I may not be the best rapper, or the best producer, but I will write the best songs." It'd take a brave person to try and refute that claim. Alwasta is enjoyable for both long-time fans of Oddisee, and newcomers. The tunes are well crafted with simple, traditional song-structures. While the record is certainly an easy-listen the Washington-based musician always brings substance to those wanting to dig a little deeper into the music and lyrics.
On Catching Vibes Oddisee raps:
You know that I'm putting my foot in a tour every time I set foot on a stage. I belong in categories only I have made
We feel he is still criminally underrated and deserves to be considered among the best acts in hip-hop. The closing track Slow Groove interpolates the heavily-sampled Eddie Kendricks track Intimate Friends, however make no mistake Oddisee certainly does it justice. The rest of the year promises to be a busy one, with an instrumental record coming (in May), along with a new studio-album. Let's not forget - it was only a few years back when Oddisee teamed up with Estère (thanks to Red Bull's Prodigy Series) and helped deliver one of our favourite tracks of 2013. Don't sleep any longer.
